Competition: Ligue 1

Market: Nice win

Odds: 10/11 @ 888sport

Looking to extend on what has been a real Ligue 1 purple patch this weekend, Nice will welcome Lille to the Allianz Riviera on Saturday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Nice might have been left heartbroken by their Coupe de France final defeat against Nantes on May 7th, Christophe Galtier’s side really came roaring back earlier in the week. Picking up what turned out to be an action-packed 4-2 win against relegation scrappers St. Etienne, the Eaglets have really impressed many across France this season. Cruising towards a European return, the one-time Lille boss also has his sights set on booking a shock Champions League finish. Winning each of their last three Ligue 1 matchups and smelling the chance to lay down another marker on Saturday night, Nice have also gained a fearsome reputation for their continued success on home soil. Remarkably, this weekend’s hosts are unbeaten on Ligue 1 duties at the Allianz Riviera since way back on February 5th.

As for the visitors, while Nice should find the mood in their camp at a red-hot high, the same cannot be said for a Lille side who are in the midst of an extended nightmare. Although the Mastiffs might have stunned everyone across Europe as they clinched the Ligue 1 title last season, Head Coach Jocelyn Gourvennec has seen his side really fail to match a similar level this time around. Last seen putting in another downbeat display as they were hit with a 2-1 loss at home against Monaco, Saturday’s guests now find themselves simply in a battle to clinch a top-half finish. Now losing four of their last five contests, a run highlighted by a 3-0 drumming away at Troyes on May 1st, Lille face a tough task here. Given the huge recent gulf in class, we’re backing a home victory for Nice this weekend.
