Bitesize Prediction: Sunderland vs Huddersfield – 29/11/23

Competition: Championship

Market: Sunderland win

Odds: 4/6 @ Pribet

Looking to claim an immediate response on Wednesday night, Sunderland will welcome Huddersfield to the Stadium of Light.

Starting with the hosts, marking their return from November’s international break with a flat performance over the weekend, there is no doubt that Sunderland are seeking an immediate boost here. Nevertheless, despite eventually slumping to a 2-0 loss at the hands of Plymouth, Tony Mowbray’s side should still find the mood in their camp at a high. Opening the midweek fixtures sat just two points adrift of breaking back into the play-off places, the former Blackburn boss should be smelling a potential opportunity. Last seen at the Stadium of Light clinching a routine 3-1 romp against Birmingham, Sunderland will be excited to make a return to home soil here. Including signing off October with another 3-1 victory against Norwich, Mowbray’s side have collected nine points from their previous four Championship contests in front of their own supporters. With another top-six finish at the top of their agenda this year, Wednesday’s hosts will be desperate to make a major statement.

As for the visitors, while Huddersfield might have managed to snatch a shock 1-1 stalemate at home against Southampton over the weekend, Darren Moore’s side find themselves at the heart of a public Championship struggle. Firmly looking over their shoulder at the drop zone and opening up the midweek fixtures holding just a four-point buffer from slipping into the bottom-three, the former Sheffield Wednesday boss has a real job on his hands. In fact, the Terriers have recorded just a single victory from any of their previous 11 appearances across all formats – a run that stems all the way back to September 16th – Huddersfield should be bracing themselves for another stern examination here. Signing off October with a routine 4-1 drumming at the hands of Lees, Moore’s side are rightfully tipped as a real underdog in midweek. Two sides battling it out at opposite ends of the Championship standings, we are backing a home win on Wednesday night.
