Competition: Serie A

Market: Both teams to score

Odds: 10/11 @ BetUS

In what is a real relegation six-pointer at the foot of the Serie A table, Verona will welcome Udinese to the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi.

Starting with the hosts, while Verona might have opened March with a much-needed minor boost, the Mastiffs have come crashing back down to earth. Although Marco Baroni’s men might have been last seen snatching a thrilling 2-2 stalemate away at Atalanta, the Veneto-based outfit are without a win from any of their previous four Serie A appearances. Heading into March’s international break with a routine 3-1 drumming at the hands of Italian giants AC Milan, the Gialloblu are firmly at the heart of a relegation scrap. Despite just about clinging to their top-flight status last season, Verona have claimed just two wins from any of their previous 12 showdowns on the bounce – a rut that stems back to a 2-1 win against Empoli on January 13th. Shipping eight goals on their four-match winless run, Saturday’s hosts have also shown some extended issues at the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi. Including a 2-1 loss against Genoa earlier in the month, Baroni’s side have lost back-to-back appearances in front of their own supporters by an aggregate score of 5-2.

As for the visitors, although some in Udinese’s camp might have opened up the 2023/24 campaign with their sights set on mounting a genuine top-half charge, the Little Zebras find themselves in an almost identical position to Saturday’s opponents. Getting this weekend’s fixtures underway holding just a one-point buffer from slipping into the drop zone, Gabriele Cioffi’s men face what is rightfully billed as a must-win showdown when they travel to the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi. Recording just a sole victory from any of their previous eight Serie A appearances, the one-time Crawley boss also has a real headache over his side’s extended issues at the back. Failing to muster a single top-flight clean sheet over the past couple of months, neutrals could be set for a nail-biting affair this weekend. It should be highlighted, with Saturday’s opponents playing out a thrilling 3-3 stalemate when they last met in Serie A action on December 3rd, we are expecting both teams to get on the scoresheet.
