Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund have announced that Jakub Blaszczykowski has penned a new contract with the German club until 2016.

The 26-year-old midfielder has developed into a key player at Signal Iduna Park since completing a three-million-euro move from Polish club Wisla Krakow at the end of the 2006/07 season.

He has now put an end to speculation about his long-term future by adding three more years to his previous deal, which was set to expire in 2013, amid reports of interest from the likes of Liverpool and Inter.

“I am very happy in Dortmund,” he told reporters after signing the new contract. “The last five years at Dortmund were just great.”

The Poland international, who captained his country as they hosted Euro 2012, has scored 14 goals in 141 Bundesliga appearances for Dortmund.
