Boa Morte considers PSL move

Ex-English Premier League forward Luis Boa Morte will arrive in South Africa on Monday for talks with an unnamed Premier Soccer League club.

According to Kickoff, the identity of the interested club has been kept a secret, but the two Soweto giants Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be at the forefront to sign the former Portugal international.

Boa Morte is considering the move after urging from close friend Benni McCarthy, who played with him at West Ham and is now at the Pirates.

Former Fulham and Arsenal winger Boa Morte is a free agent after prematurely parting ways with Greek second tier side Larissa just six months into his stay, following financial problems at the club.

Paul Mitchell – the agent representing the 34-year-old in South Africa – said that the influence of McCarthy stands as the reason behind Boa Morte’s decision to consider playing in the PSL.

“Luis is close friends with Benni and it is actually Benni who recommended that Luis must consider coming down to South Africa,” he told Kickoff.com.

“After being convinced by Benni about the PSL, Luis is now excited about coming down to the country. The thing about Benni is that he speaks Portuguese just like Luis and their friendship is from their time at West Ham.”

With over 300 games in the English Premiership from his 14 years in England, Boa Morte will arrive in South Africa armed with vital experience, despite being in the twilight of his career.

“He is 34 but he still has at least two good years left in him and if possible he could as well finish off his career in the country. One thing that is definite about him is that he is still quality,” Mitchell said.
