Boca Juniors fans have called on Manchester City attacker Carlos Tevez to return to the club where he started his career.

The plea came after a testimonial match for Bocas legend Martin Palermo at the weekend.

The 27-year-old was expected to play alongside Palermo and other Boca Juniors stars in a match arranged in the retired goalscorer’s honour, but Tevez eventually opted against featuring in order to avoid controversy.

Nevertheless, the striker entered the pitch at half-time, and Tevez’s arrival was met with delight by the Boca fans.

“Leave the English, and come back over here!,” chanted the fans when Tevez walked onto the field.

Tevez was being linked with AC Milan, Inter and Paris Saint-Germain during the January transfer window, but stayed with City in the end.

Brazilian club Corinthians, however, are still to rule out a late swoop for their former star, although City’s financial demands have previously scuppered the chance of a return to South America.
