In a contest between two sides who found themselves enjoying real purple patches before last year’s campaign was scrapped, Lille and Rennes will open up the 2020/2021 season when they meet on Saturday night.

As for the visitors, managing to wrap up a stunning third-place finish in last year’s interrupted campaign, Rennes have a maiden Champions League appearance on the horizon and cemented their spot as the Ligue 1 dark horses. Despite playing out a dramatic 3-2 defeat against Nice in a behind closed doors friendly last week, Les Rennais were last seen on top-flight duties picking up a glittering 5-0 romp against Montpellier back in March and much like Saturday’s hosts, Julien Stéphan’s side found themselves in the midst of their own three-match Ligue 1 winning run. Losing just one of their last four contests against Lille, there is no doubt that the Reds will be looking to make their own statement this weekend.
