Desperate to extend on their recent resurge, Nimes will welcome Champions League frontrunners Marseille to the Stade des Costières on Friday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Nimes may have been disappointed to have seen their remarkable winning run come to an end last weekend at the hands of Rennes, the mood around the Stade des Costières should be on the rise. Despite being tipped as the leading relegation contender when opening the New Year, Bernard Blaquart’s men have won four of their last five Ligue 1 appearances and are now within touching distance of climbing to safety. Unsurprisingly, a huge part of Nimes’ recent resurge has come thanks to their stellar displays on home soil. Including picking up a very eye-catching 3-1 win over Monaco earlier in the month, Nimes have won each of their last three matchups in front of their own supporters and Blaquart’s side should be confident of making another statement on Friday.

As for the visitors, although Marseille might still find themselves in the midst of their most successful Ligue 1 campaign in recent memory, André Villas-Boas’ side are now simply seeking a response. Putting in a season-worst display in what was a shock 3-1 hammering at home against Nantes last time out, the former Chelsea boss has seen his side lose two of their last three outings, including crashing out of the Coupe de France away at Lyon a fortnight ago. However, still possessing a string of firepower including talisman Dimitri Payet, Marseille do have a growing reputation for being an away day specialist in France’s top-tier. With each of the previous four meetings between the two sides seeing both teams find the net by full-time, we’re backing a similar outcome at the Stade des Costières.
