In a contest between two sides who have continued to show some glaring issues at the back, Seattle will welcome San Jose to an empty CenturyLink Field in the early hours of Friday morning.

Starting with the hosts, while Seattle might have impressed many when they made a return to Western Conference duties last month with back-to-back 3-0 and 3-1 victories against Portland and LAFC, Brian Schmetzer’s men appear to be slumping back to their old ways. Watching Portland pick up what was a late winner when they welcomed the Greens to CenturyLink Field last weekend, the Sounders have sacrificed their spot at the top of the table and also had to settle for a late point away at Real Salt Lake earlier in the month thanks to a dramatic 2-2 draw. Crashing out of the MLS is Back tournament thanks to a 4-1 hammering at the hands of Los Angeles, their issues at the back will undoubtedly be giving Schmetzer a real headache.

As for the visitors, also throwing away the lead late on at home against Colorado last weekend, San Jose have drastically struggled to find their feet since making a return to action. Watching their MLS is Back adventure come to a thumping end thanks to a 4-1 hammering at the hands of Minnesota, Matías Almeyda’s men already find themselves nailed to the bottom of the Western Conference. With their recent issues highlighted by back-to-back 5-1 and 3-2 defeats at the hands of LAFC since making a return to action, it is no surprise that the Earthquakes have a real reputation for their glaring problems at the back. Now shipping 13 goals on their four-match winless run, we’re backing both teams to find the net in what should be a scrappy contest between two leaky defences on Friday.
