Brazil re-enter top 10 in latest FIFA rankings

Brazil’s FIFA Confederations Cup success has seen them climb back into the top 10 in the governing body’s latest world rankings.

Luiz Felipe Scolari’s side jumped up 13 places to ninth following their 3-0 victory over Spain in the final held at the Maracana Stadium.

They gained 223 points over the last month courtesy of winning all five of their matches at the tournament, as well as triumphing over France in a friendly.

Uruguay and Italy also benefitted from their respective runs to the semi-finals, the former moving up seven places to 12th, while the latter went up two places to sixth.

But the tournament did not help all the participating sides as Mexico (20th, down three), Nigeria (35th, down four), Japan (37th, down five) and Tahiti (154th, down 16) all dropped down the rankings.

Spain remain in first place ahead of Germany, while Colombia occupy a best-ever third-place spot following good results in FIFA World Cup qualifying.

Belgium (10th, up two) move into the top 10 for the first time in their history but England (15th, down six) and Ecuador (18th, down eight) drop out of the top 10.

Senegal were the biggest climbers, rising 25 places to 74th spot, while Central African Republic were the biggest fallers, dropping 30 places to 89th.
