Cahill confident of ending goal drought

Everton midfielder Tim Cahill is undeterred by his recent scoring drought, suggesting his recent form and fitness will soon translate into goals.

The Australian has not scored for the English Premier League side since last December, and has struggled with fitness since his Asian Cup participation earlier this year.

Cahill however remains confident that he will find the back of the net sooner rather than later.

“I feel good in games and the goal will come – if it doesn’t then that’s football,” Cahill told his official website.

“That is the biggest test that is thrown at you. As long as I am contributing I don’t always have to be the one that scores.”

“If I am setting people up and I am making that one extra run or tackle it might make a difference.”

“If I am not the one scoring then hopefully someone else is to make sure we win.”

“What do you do? Do you stop playing football, do you stop going on the pitch?”

“It is what you do. It is the best game in the world and something that I love and the fans know I give everything.”

“That is life and I am a professional. I am blessed playing in one of the best leagues, on one of the biggest stages in the world, and if I wasn’t consistent and not playing well it would be even harder but I feel fantastic.”

David Moyes’ side travel to the Emirates on Saturday to face Arsenal, but Cahill revealed his preparation is the same for every game regardless of the opponent.

“It doesn’t matter whether you play Chelsea twice in two weeks, Liverpool, Man City, Man United, you are not going to not want to play because you haven’t scored a goal,” the Aussie said.

“They are the games you want to play in, whether you are playing defensively or you are attacking.”

“When it (the goal) goes in you’ll have to find something else to write about.”

Moyes said recently that the Australian’s participation in the Asian Cup had adversely affected Cahill’s fitness, something the midfielder is not letting get in the way of his relationship with his manager.

“Me and the gaffer have a great relationship,” the 32-year-old added.

“He knows as well as I that I was not fit and shouldn’t have played but sometimes you have to take one for the team, like Jags (Phil Jagielka) has been doing for the last month getting injections in his toe.”

“The end of last season was written off because of my injuries but I had a good pre-season and I have come back feeling unbelievable.”

“You want to do well for your club, that is what I have always said and I’ve wanted the fans to know that. That is all that matters.”
