Italy’s Fabio Cannavaro has admitted he would have liked to have retired from football with his home town club Napoli.

The 2006 World Cup winner with Italy began his professional career with the club in 1992 before he joined Parma three years later.

However, his dream was to stay there and become a club legend.

“The biggest regret was not being Napoli’s (Francesco) Totti or (Paolo) Maldini,” Cannavaro told Radio Deejay.

“My dream was to become the flagship player for Napoli. Even though I played for other teams, I would have liked to have returned and retired there.”

“Napoli is my life, my city, I have regrets.”

Napoli are currently third in Serie A with 10 points from five games.

Walter Mazzarri’s men play another of Cannavaro’s former sides, Parma, after the international break.
