Cech confident Chelsea will attract big names

Petr Cech believes that Chelsea’s back-to-back European successes will encourage more top names to join the club.

Their triumph in the UEFA Champions League last season persuaded Eden Hazard to join the club and Cech said their recent UEFA Europa League success against Benfica could have the same impact.

Radamel Falcao, Edinson Cavani and Andre Schurrle have all been linked with moves to Stamford Bridge and Cech hopes the prospect of silverware will lure them to the club.

“Last season everyone wanted Eden Hazard and because we won the
Champions League he chose our club ahead of everybody else,” he told the club’s official website.

“This year we
won back-to-back European trophies and I believe that win in Amsterdam
was again very important because players choosing between teams may
rather choose Chelsea because they always win something.”

Victory over Everton on the final day of the season guaranteed Chelsea third place in the league, meaning they will go straight into the group stages the UEFA Champions League.

Cech thinks avoiding the qualifying rounds will help them prepare for the new campaign.

“Now the structure of our pre-season can be held the same way as it is prepared and this is a big help,” he continued.

“Everybody will have enough rest to start to season and be fresh, and we don’t have to worry about this.”

The Czech international is also aiming to erase bad memories from their UEFA Super Cup defeat to Benfica this season by beating the winner of Saturday’s UEFA Champions League final between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in next season’s fixture.

“I am really happy that we won the Europa League because this win gave
us a ticket for the Super Cup in Prague which is even better because I
will play at home,” he added.

“After the huge disappointment of
last year’s Super Cup this is another important and positive thing, and
the race for the third place was fantastic because it was up until the
last minute.”
