Cedric Bakambu set for Villarreal exit

Villarreal boss Javi Calleja has revealed that Congolese striker Cedric Bakambu will soon be leaving Villarreal.

According to reports in Spain, the 26-year-old has been the subject of heavy interest from Beijing Guoan.

The Chinese club plan to trigger the player’s €40 million release clause, in which case Bakambu will break Villarreal’s transfer record currently held by Eric Bailly.

The Yellow Submarine boss Javi Calleja moved to confirm the reports, albeit not revealing the identity of the club in question.

“The transfer of Bakambu is set to be completed, it is only a matter of time,” Calleja said.

“Numerous sides have shown interest. I believe the transfer clause will be matched.”

Cedric Bakambu has been in fine form this season, bagging 9 goals in 15 La Liga outings, and it seems he couldn’t resist the lure of a lucrative contract in China.
