Trevoh Chalobah insisted that everyone within Chelsea’s squad must take ownership of their Premier League slump following Tuesday’s damaging defeat at Brighton.
Chelsea were beaten 3-0 by the Seagulls at American Express Stadium, with Fabian Hurzeler’s side leapfrogging the Blues in the table and moving up to sixth position.
Across each team’s last nine games in the Premier League, only relegation-threatened London rivals Tottenham (two) have won fewer points than Chelsea (five – W1 D2 L6).
In addition, Chelsea have also now lost five successive league games without scoring for the first time since November 1912, while their overall five-game losing streak is their longest in the Premier League since November 1993 (a run of six).
That run of form resulted in the Blues sacking Liam Rosenior on Wednesday, despite only replacing Enzo Maresca three months ago after leaving Strasbourg.
In what proved to be his final game in charge, Rosenior described Chelsea’s latest defeat as “unacceptable”, and Chalobah urged his team-mates to improve in their final four league games of the season.
“We can be accountable. As players, we have to be accountable for the performance,” Chalobah told Sky Sports.
“We know how much the fans have been behind us, and we know they are disappointed with the results. We just have to stick together and pull through.”

After it was confirmed that fifth place would be enough to secure Champions League football in 2026-27, Chelsea are at risk of missing out on UEFA’s flagship competition.
They are seven points behind Liverpool, who also boast a game in hand, with Chelsea assigned a 1.4% chance of finishing fifth by the Opta supercomputer.
Brighton (5.6%), Bournemouth (2.1%) and Brentford (1.8%) are all better fancied in its season simulations, though Liverpool are the overwhelming favourites at 50%.
Sixth still could be enough for a place in UEFA’s flagship competition if Aston Villa win the Europa League this season, but Chelsea’s hopes of finishing there are rated at just 10.2%, behind Brighton’s 36% likelihood.
Chelsea could even find themselves as low as 11th before their next Premier League match against Nottingham Forest, should results go against them, with Leeds United up next in the FA Cup semi-finals.
“We have to pick ourselves up. We’ve got a semi-final to come. It’s a massive game at Wembley,” Chalobah said about whether there is added pressure to reach the FA Cup final.
“Us being at another semi-final, we’ve got to use that as a positive and approach the game with a strong mentality, try to pick ourselves up from this defeat and stay positive.”
