City loan out Abu to Frankfurt

Manchester City youngster Mohammed Abu has joined Eintracht Frankfurt on a six-month loan with an option to extend until 2013.

The 20-year-old will spend January on international duty with Ghana at the African Cup of Nations, after which time he will move to Frankfurt.

If he impresses by June, the 2. Bundesliga side have the option to extend his loan deal for a further year.

“He is certainly not yet the same as a very big signing, but a great talent,” Frankfurt sporting director Bruno Hubner said, according to Wiesbadener Kurier.

“(The signing of Abu) is a first attempt in the framework of our partnership with Manchester City.”

Abu signed with City in 2010, and was sent on loan to Norwegian outfit Stromgodset, where he was named the club’s ‘Player of the Year.’

His contract with City is set to expire in 2014.
