Clattenburg to return to Chelsea

Mark Clattenburg will make his first return to Stamford Bridge this weekend since being cleared of racially abusing Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel.

Clattenburg will officiate the game between Chelsea and Swansea on Sunday after accusations were made following the London club’s defeat to Manchester United on October 28th.

The Football Association first cleared Clattenburg of any wrongdoing before the police also dropped their investigation with Chelsea saying at the time they felt they had a responsibility to report the allegations.

Ramires had claimed that he heard racial language used towards the Nigerian midfielder, with Mikel himself fined £60,000 and banned for three matches for threatening Clattenburg in the officials’ changing rooms after the game.

During what was a controversial fixture, Chelsea players Fernando Torres and Branislav Ivanovic were both shown red cards.

While Clattenburg was back refereeing fixtures just days after being cleared by the FA, this will be the first time that the County Durham-born official has been back to Stamford Bridge.
