Bundesliga club Hamburg had a 3-1 win over Belgian First Division outfit Anderlecht in a club friendly on Tuesday.
Hamburg went ahead via an own goal from Anderlecht centre back Bram Nuytinck on 18 minutes, after he headed a well-taken corner from Rafael van der Vaart into his own net from close range.
The Belgian side equalised, though, when American international Sacha Kljestan converted a penalty 10 minutes later – earned when Jordan Lukaku was brought down at the end of his run out on the left side.
Midfielder Ivo Ilicevic then curled in Hamburg’s second goal after turning his defender inside out, with his left-foot effort finding the far corner.
The result was sealed in the 73rd minute, when Valmir Nafiu beat the Anderlecht goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation, sliding the ball under the shot-stopper and into the back of the net.
In other friendly results around the continent, Ligue 1 side Montpellier had a 2-0 win over Ligue 2 opponents AC Arles-Avignon.
La Liga club Mallorca beat Eredivisie side NEC Nijmegen 2-0, NEC’s domestic rivals Roda JC smashed Dutch amateur club EVV 5-0, while Liga Sagres team Benfica had a 3-2 win over Swiss club Sion.
