West Ham United co-owner David Sullivan has confirmed Joe Cole rejected an offer from the club. Chelsea’s Cole, who began his career at Upton Park, had been linked with a move back to his first club.

The 28-year-old midfielder has not yet signed a contract extension with the Blues and can leave Chelsea for another club on free. However, Cole refused an offer from West Ham United although the club had told him to “name a price”.

Sullivan said: “We’ve asked Joe to name a price but he said no.”

The Hammers are widely tipped to hire Avram Grant as manager following the sacking of Gianfranco Zola. Grant, having coached Cole at Chelsea, was expected to try and sign the player.

Many clubs have been poised to bid for Cole, namely the two Manchester club United and City along with Chelsea’s London rivals Arsenal.
