Toluca has made a winning start to their CONCACAF Champions League campaign with a 3-1 win over Caledonia AIA.

The Mexican outfit are top of Group 6 after the win at Estadio Nemesio Diez, with Edgar Benitez, Miguel Almazan and Raul Nava on the scoresheet.

Julian Wade scored an 88th-minute consolation goal for the visitors from Trinidad and Tobago.

Benitez’s opener midway through the first half on Tuesday came in fortuitous circumstances as his free-kick from 25 yards found the bottom corner.

The effort would have hit the five-man wall if Caledonia’s Keyon Edwards had not ducked.

It was 2-0 on the half-hour mark thanks to Almazan’s neat finish after he was played in behind by Edy Brambila.

Nava sealed the three points in the 61st minute, pouncing on a loose ball inside the area to side-foot a low effort past Glenroy Samuel.

The hosts were unable to hold on to a clean sheet as substitute Wade scored with two minutes remaining, poking an Aubrey David cross through Alfredo Talavera’s legs.

In Group 7, El Salvador’s Firpo and Mexico’s Tijuana played out a 0-0 draw at Estadio Cuscatlan.

Both teams had their chances in San Salvador, with Tijuana unlucky not to come away with all three points.

The visitors enjoyed the better of the opportunities and hit the post from a free-kick in the first half.
