Juventus coach Antonio Conte has stressed that the Turin side need time to return to winning ways after finishing only seventh last season.

Expectations in the north-west of Italy are high after the arrival of a number of new players and a new tactician, but Conte has stated that people should not expect too much and added that it was crucial to keep on working hard during the pre-season.

“I understand people’s excitement, but we don’t want to delude anyone. In order to be back on track we need time and work,” Conte said.

“We have to continue our hard work. Good results can be achieved by working hard, but do not come overnight. We’re going through a learning process. Where we are? Where I expected us to be. We need to work hard and have to be patient.”

The Juventus tactician then briefly discussed his side’s scoreless friendly draw against Real Betis on Saturday.

“Real Betis are physically better than us. In recent years, Italian teams often struggled against Spanish sides, who aim at ball possession. This evening, I’ve seen positive aspects and things that need to be improved.”

Juventus kick off their Serie A campaign with an away match against Udinese on August 28.
