Brazilian outfit Sao Paulo have romped into the semi-finals of the Copa Sudamericana after routing Club Universidad de Chile.

Sao Paulo already headed into the second leg of their quarter-final tie with a cushy 2-0 advantage that included two away goals from their first leg in Santiago last week.

And they rubbed salt into their opponents’ wounds on Wednesday with a crushing 5-0 victory at Estadio do Pacaembu to ensure a comprehensive 7-0 aggregate result.

Sao Paulo will now face either Universidad Catolica (Chile) or Independiente (Argentina) in the final four.

The six-time Brazilian champions hardly wasted any time in extending their advantage over Club Universidad de Chile when in the fourth minute Jadson opened up Sao Paulo’s account.

Lucas Moura extended the hosts’ advantage in the 21st minute and when Luis Fabiano found the back of the net seven minutes later, Universidad de Chile’s faint semi-final hopes were well and truly dashed.

Rafael Toloi continued the punishment after half-time when he made it 4-0 in the 64th minute and Jadson completed his brace, and the massacre, 12 minutes later to cap off a forgettable day for Club Universidad de Chile.

Universidad Catolica will host Independiente in their second leg on Thursday to decide who will face Sao Paulo in the semi-finals.

The Chilean outfit hold a distinct advantage having scored two away goals in their first-leg 2-2 draw last week in Avellaneda.
