Willian Jose has scored two goals to help Sao Paulo defeat Universidad Chile 2-0 in the first leg of their Copa Sudamericana quarter-final.

Playing away from home on Wednesday, Sao Paulo got off to a brilliant start when Willian Jose collected Wellington’s long pass in the eighth minute, took a touch and then thumped a shot over Universidad’s goalkeeper Jhonny Herrera and under the crossbar.

Just 11 minutes later and it was 2-0 after Lucas Moura’s cross from the right wing bobbled around in the penalty area and Willian Jose was the first to react, thumping the ball into the net.

Sao Paulo maintained that score line for the rest of the match in Santiago – aided by a brilliant performance from veteran goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni.

The Brazilian club are now in the box seat to advance to the Copa Sudamericana semi-finals ahead of their second leg against Universidad on November 7.
