Angers have clinched a thrilling Coupe de France tie over fellow Ligue 2 side Monaco 4-3 on Monday, thanks to a late Claudiu Keseru penalty.

An action-packed first half saw Angers lead on three separate occasions, only for visitors Monaco to equalise as many times at the Stade Jean Bouin.

Diego Gomez opened the scoring on 11 minutes for the home side, before Edgard Salli made it 1-1 in the 22nd minute.

A Gaetan Charbonnier penalty in the 27th minute, was quickly cancelled out by Ludovic Giuly’s first goal less than 60 seconds later.

Keseru opened his account for the match seven minutes later, but an ever-resistant Monaco levelled once more through Giuly’s second in the 44th minute.

The second-half was somewhat anti-climactic after the goal fest in the first 45 minutes, but there was late drama as Angers were awarded a second spot-kick for the contest – and Keseru duly dispatched it to the right side of the goal.

Angers will now face a trip to third-tier outfit Quevilly for their final-32 clash in two weeks’ time.
