Stoke City striker Peter Crouch has lost two teeth with another embedded in his jaw after a collision with Newcastle’s Fabricio Coloccini.

The Argentina international’s stray arm caught the former England international in the mouth during the Potters 2-1 win over Newcastle at the Britannia Stadium on Wednesday.

Manager Tony Pulis believes there was no malice in the challenge, and praised the 31-year-old’s determination to play on after the injury, while confirming Crouch is ‘going to need some work on it’.

“Peter wanted to carry on. But then he saw his teeth in the doctor’s hands. He almost fainted, I think,” Pulis told reporters.

“He has lost two and the third was stuck in his upper jaw. He’s going to need some work on it. But I don’t think there was any malice in it.”

Kenwyne Jones replaced the former Tottenham striker after 40 minutes, with Crouch assessed by the club’s doctor.

Papiss Cisse gave the visitors the lead, only for Jon Walters and Cameron Jerome to turn the game around as Stoke claimed their third win in four matches.
