Dante and Luiz Gustavo to miss DFB-Pokal final

Bayern Munich will be without Luiz Gustavo and Dante for the DFB-Pokal against Stuttgart on Saturday.

Both have been named in Brazil’s squad for the Confederations Cup and, due to FIFA regulations, must join the national squad as it is less than 14 days until the start of the tournament.

While Bayern were hopeful that the Brazilian Football Confederation would allow the pair to fly to Rio after the final, chairman Karl-Heinze Rummenigge said the CBF had put an “inhuman” level of pressure on the players to travel.

“We have decided to release both players. They will travel to Rio this (Thursday) evening,” Rummenigge said.

“The pressure the CBF has exercised on Bayern and the players is inhuman in my opinion and I find it unacceptable that both players are in a situation like this. They are both very unhappy with it.

“We tried everything in our power, but the Brazilians stick by the FIFA regulations.”

A win against Stuttgart in Berlin will wrap up a treble for Jupp Heynckes’ men who have already won the league and UEFA Champions League.

It would prove to be a historic achievement with no German side having won the three trophies in one season previously.
