Tottenham midfielder Simon Dawkins will return to the San Jose Earthquakes on loan in 2012, the US club confirmed on Tuesday.
Dawkins scored six goals and provided two assists in 26 appearances for Major League Soccer franchise the Earthquakes while on loan from Spurs last term.
The 24-year-old rejoined Tottenham during the MLS off-season, but is set to return across the Atlantic for a second stint.
“Simon did very well for us last season and we’re really happy to have him back,” Earthquakes head coach Frank Yallop said.
“He’s talented on the ball, will take guys on and not only will set team-mates up, but will create his own chances.”
“With a year under his belt in our league, he knows what to expect now and should be ready to once again be a key piece for us.”
Dawkins’ return to San Jose was not a foregone conclusion.
The midfielder was included in Tottenham’s 25-man English Premier League squad, scored two goals for the reserves, and spent a week on trial with FC Twente.
But he will again swap London for the Bay Area in 2012.
“It was one of our primary off-season goals to bring Simon back to San Jose, but we had to be patient. In the end, that patience paid off,” Earthquakes general manager John Doyle said.
“We liked what we saw out of Simon last year. He’s a versatile player who adds another dimension to our line up and we’re excited for his return to the club.”
