De Bruyne: I need to play to stay at Chelsea

Chelsea midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has insisted he needs to play regularly if he is to remain at the club next season.

The Belgian has been loaned out to Genk and Werder Bremen over the past two seasons and is now being linked with a temporary switch to Bayer Leverkusen, with Andre Schurrle potentially going the opposite way.

And, while De Bruyne is not ruling out a return to Stamford Bridge, he has underlined his need to play first-team football on a regular basis if he is to be in contention for Belgium’s World Cup 2014 squad.

“The most important thing for me is to be playing games,” he told Sky Sports. “I know that I will be stressed when I play a few games on the bench.

“I always try to give my best for the team and I’ve had a great season, but also next season I need to play a lot of games. With the point of the World Cup, it’s very important.”

De Bruyne also confirmed that he will speak with new Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho about his future, but says there is no rush to do so.

“I think the time [to meet Mourinho] will come. The season is over now. We will see what happens,” he added.
