Roma director Franco Baldini has revealed that Italy international Daniele De Rossi has signed a new contract with the club until 2015.

The midfielder’s previous deal was due to expire at the end of the current campaign, and clubs such as Manchester City and Real Madrid were believed to be closely monitoring his situation.

Nevertheless, De Rossi has now decided to stay at the Stadio Olimpico as he has signed a new five-year deal.

“De Rossi? The people in Rome have been very patient, but I can now tell them that he has signed a new five-year deal,” Baldini told reporters.

“We are working on a big project here and Daniele wants to be part of our ambitious plans. We might need some time, but are aiming high.”

Roma will explain the details of the 28-year-old’s contract extension at a press conference on Monday.
