Bayern Munich’s Argentine international defender Martin Demichelis has been ruled out for up to seven weeks with a right ankle injury, the Bundesliga club announced on Thursday.

Demichelis picked up the injury in training Wednesday.

His loss for the start of the season is a blow for Bayern who had been counting on the 28-year-old after the departure of Brazilian Lucio.

He is expected to be replaced by Holger Badstuber for the German league curtain-raiser against Hoffenheim on Saturday.

German international striker Miroslav Klose is also doubtful for the season opener because of a muscular problem and star striker Franck Ribery could miss the game with a knee problem.
