Djibril Cisse: I rejected big money offer to join Lazio

French striker Djibril Cisse says he rejected a hefty contract offer from Chinese side Guangzhou in order to join Lazio.

The 30-year-old made a switch to Lazio earlier this summer, even though he admits Serie A was not his first choice.

“I thought that Serie A was not for me. Only idiots do not change their minds,” Cisse told France Football.

The player then revealed that he had received a huge offer from Chinese side Guangzhou before joining Lazio.

“This summer I had a crazy proposal. Something sick in China! The champions (Guangzhou) offered me almost 20 million euros for two-and-a-half-year contract.

”But, it is too early. The sporting reasons prevailed for me. I will not go to a distant destination since that wouldn’t help me return to the French national team.”
