Edin Dzeko drops Serie A hint; Atletico ponder Godin sale

Edin Dzeko drops Serie A hint

Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko has revealed that Italian Serie A could be his next destination.

The Bosnian international is hoping to leave Etihad Stadium this summer in search of first team football and he has been heavily linked with a move to Italy’s top flight.

Dzeko has been paired with Juventus and several other high-profile sides, and the player now admits that he would love to play in Serie A.

“I always follow the Italian league and one day I’d like to play in it. I also know that Milan has sold two of its best players,” the striker told reporters after the friendly game against Wolfsburg.

“For now I am a City player, but to be sure I will stay here I will have to wait until the end of the month. I’ll see what happens, and if someone else comes.”

City boss Roberto Mancini has vowed not to sell the Bosnian, but it appears that Dzeko has already set his sights on leaving the club.

It is highly unlikely that the 26-year-old will be considered a first team regular at Etihad in the upcoming season, while top Italian clubs would jump at the opportunity to sign the player with an impressive scoring record.

Atletico ponder Godin sale

Atletico Madrid may be forced to sell centre-back Diego Godin in order to balance the books, AS understands.

Los Colchoneros needed to gather around €30 million this summer to stay in the green and they are slowly reaching their objective.

Key players Falcao, Adrian, Arda Turan and Filipe Luis were never in danger of being sold, but Atletico chiefs had no choice but to sell Alvaro Dominguez and Eduardo Salvio.

The two players were sold for a combined profit of €19 million, which means the club need to sell at least another high-profile player by the end of the transfer market.

AS claims that centre-back Diego Godin is likely to be sacrificed for greater good even if he is normally considered a first team regular at Vicente Calderon.

The Argentine is held in high regard by top clubs from England and Italy, with Manchester City, Chelsea and Milan all keen on the 26-year-old stopper.

Diego Godin already has five years of La Liga experience and has made 30 appearances in European competitions, while he is also considered a first team regular in Uruguay national team.

Valencia and Shakhtar battling for Insua

Portuguese newspaper A Bola reports that Sporting Lisbon full-back Emiliano Insua is attracting interest from Valencia and Shakhtar Donetsk.

The 23-year-old managed to resurrect his career at Estadio Joao Alvalade and has largely impressed in his first season in Portugal.

The Argentine defender has attracted a lot of interest in the process and he is now being linked with a move away from the club.

According to A Bola, both Valencia and Shakhtar Donetsk are keen on the highly rated defender, although the two clubs have yet to make an official proposal.

The La Liga side believe Insua would be a perfect replacement for Jordi Alba, who joined Barcelona earlier this summer, although club’s poor financial situation means they are not prepared to go all out to get their man.

Shakhtar Donetsk, on the other hand, have a healthy balance in the bank and there are no doubts they can outbid Valencia if both sides decide to step up their interest in the player.

However, Sporting Lisbon are eager to keep hold of Insua and it would take a very tempting offer to make the Lions part from their star player.
