The qualification match with Peru against Venezuela (3-1 loss) was the last match for Paulo Guerrero this season. The Hamburger SV striker damaged his cruciate ligaments and won`t be able to play for at least nine months.
The 25-year-old had a good season with HSV so far, scoring four times in four matches.
`This is a huge disappointment for us,` Hamburg coach Bruno Labbadia told Kicker.
`He was playing very well and he`s our top scorer. Besides that he developed himself as a leader of the squad this season.`
Guerrero is the fourth HSV player that`s out for a long period. Collin Benjamin, Alex Silva and Bastian Reinhardt earlier also suffer from a serious injury.
