Enrique unhappy after Genoa loss

Roma boss Luis Enrique described his side’s 2-1 defeat to Genoa in Serie A on Wednesday as an ‘unfair result’.

Juraj Kucka’s late strike earned the home side victory after Roma’s Fabio Borini had cancelled out Bosko Jankovic’s first-half goal.

Enrique, who has been in charge of Roma since June, said he was pleased with his team’s performance, despite the result.

Roma are eighth in Serie A with 11 points from eight games while Genoa are seventh on 12 points.

“That’s the most unfair result since I arrived here in Italy, the most unfair for me,” Enrique said.

“Of course I want to pay my compliments to Genoa and their coach, and I did it personally. They played their match. As for my team performance, I’m very happy because I saw the team I want, a team ready to play their match from the very first minute, gambling and chasing the ball in the opponents’ area, pressing the opponent.”

“This is a sport in which you can win or lose when you play only in defence, but I know that, I’ve seen it many times. Anyway I think we’re going in the right direction, I don’t know if I’ll win and with matches like tonight’s I don’t care.”

“I think tonight, for the first time, I saw the team I wanted and I paid my compliments to the guys, both at half time and at the end of the match. I’m sorry for them, I’m sorry for the club and the supporters, but I’m really very calm.”

Enrique was positive that his game plan would net Roma wins more often than not.

“I played as I’ve been playing from the beginning of the season, sometimes with a three-man defence and sometimes with a four-man defence, depending on the situation. Every day we work hard to improve on the pitch,” he said.

“We’ll do our thing but our job is also to understand how our opponents react. That’s the way we will be playing against any opponents. Sometimes we win and sometimes we lose, but I’m sure that if we repeat tonight’s match we’ll win seven times, we’ll draw twice and lose only once.”
