Everton agreed a deal to sign French defender Sylvain Distin from Portsmouth on Thursday.

Distin will have a medical on Thursday as Toffees boss David Moyes moves to replace England centre-back Joleon Lescott, who joined Manchester City for 24 million pounds (27.2 million euros) earlier this week.

The fee for Distin has not been disclosed, but the 31-year-old has agreed a three-year contract and will sign once he passes his medical.

Everton chief executive Robert Elstone told his club’s website: “After Sylvain made it clear his preferred destination was Goodison, the chairman Bill Kenwright moved quickly to finalise the deal – and Sylvain is now on his way to Merseyside to undergo a medical.”
