Fabio Coentrao set for Sporting CP stay

Portuguese daily newspaper A Bola understands that Real Madrid full-back Fabio Coentrao is set to remain with Sporting CP beyond the current season.

The 30-year-old has joined the Lions on a season-long loan last summer and he went on to enjoy a promising campaign on the pitch, making 44 appearances across all competitions.

And even though the defender was also making the headlines for all the wrong reasons, Sporting CP chiefs want him to remain for another season.

According to reports, the Lions will attempt to agree another loan deal for the player who clearly has no future at Santiago Bernabeu.

Considering that Coentrao’s current contract is due to expire next summer, Sporting CP would then be in pole position to sign the player on a free transfer.
