Ferdinand hails Moyes approach

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes the attitude of new manager David Moyes will help them to remain successful.

Moyes was announced as United manager in May following Alex Ferguson’s decision to retire after 27 years at the club.

Ferguson led United to 13 Premier League titles and two UEFA Champions League crowns during his time at Old Trafford.

Compatriot Moyes has yet to win a major trophy in his managerial career, but Ferdinand has been impressed with the Scot’s approach so far.

“It’s been good and the manager has left it open to us to continue what we doing to get us to what we were doing last season,” Ferdinand told BBC Sport.

“That’s been fantastic for me, because you get worried a little bit and think ‘he’s a new manager, is he going to be up to letting us continue our regimes that we’re involved in?’ but it’s a sign of a great manager that he has been.”

“He’s quick to join in with the banter, but when it’s work time, it’s work time and I think that’s what the players like.

“The players at Manchester United aren’t there to mess about on the training pitch, we’re there to enjoy ourselves but to be drilled and make sure we’re working hard to all go in the same direction and that’s to be successful.”
