FIFA threaten Benin with sanctions

The Benin Football Federation (FBF) are facing FIFA sanctions after a court ordered the body to hand over its power to a breakaway association.

On Wednesday, a court in Porto Novo ordered FBF president Moucharafou Anjorin to relinquish control of the sport in Benin, handing over to Victorien Attolou, who established a parallel football federation without the blessing of FIFA or CAF.

However, FIFA has condemned the court’s ruling stating that it is a violation of Articles 13 and 17 of the body’s statutes which state that “member associations must manage their affairs independently and without external interference.”

“The FBF experienced a very difficult year 2011 and it would be unfortunate to suffer another again,” FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke said in a letter sent to Benin authorities.
