Inter Milan striker Diego Forlan has revealed that he hopes to make his return to competitive action before Christmas.

The Uruguay international has been out of action since October 11 with a severe hamstring tear but is now happy to report that he is almost fully recovered.

“I feel good. It was the worst injury of my career, but is now part of the past,” Forlan told Corriere dello Sport.

“I’m training and my athletic condition improves day after day. But now we must wait and not rush.”

“I would return immediately, but you must use your intelligence to know when you are really ready.”

“This is probably the most difficult phase and (what) is required is to look after all the details and be careful. When I will return, I don’t want to say.”

When asked if he will make his comeback before Christmas, Forlan responded: “I would say so.”

As for Inter’s current condition, the former Atletico Madrid forward has been buoyed by a recent resurgence which has seen the Nerazzurri secure their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League and pull away from the Serie A drop zone.

“We had a difficult period in terms of results, but now the team is growing,” he said.

“In the championship, we have a game in hand and we are emerging from two wins in a row, (while) we qualified for the Champions League knockout stages as first in our group.”

“Everything is still possible: the season is long.”

Forlan arrived at San Siro in the off-season after four successful campaigns in Spain, but has been restricted to just five appearances due to injury.
