Former Argentina manager claims Man City interest

Former Argentina manager Alfio Basile said Wednesday that Manchester City are among several clubs trying to secure his services.

“I've had offers from Manchester City, from England, and from the United Arab Emirates, all of which I'm looking at,” Basile told the TyC Sports television channel.

City's takeover by the Abu Dhabi United consortium earlier this season left them as one of the world's wealthiest clubs – a point they proved with the British record 32 million pounds (40 million euros) capture of Brazil star Robinho on the September 1 transfer deadline day.

But Sunday's 2-1 defeat away to basement club West Bromwich Albion dropped City into the relegation zone after a run which had seen them take just five points from their last nine matches.

Under-pressure Manchester City manager Mark Hughes insists he will still be at the helm come the January transfer window to take advantage of the club's financial might.

However Hughes stressed he'd be given assurances by chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak and owner Sheikh Mansour that he would still be in charge at Eastlands next month.

Basile, who resigned in October and was replaced by Argentine legend Diego Maradona, said he still had a lot to offer.

“I really want to keep on coaching,” said the 64-year-old.

“I don't know why some people say I'm past it. I think I will come back in June or July.”
