Ganso staying put

Santos playmaker Ganso says he is not paying attention to reports about a move to Europe, and is hoping to sign a new deal soon.

The Brazil international has been associated with a move away from Santos in recent months, with AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain thought to be amongst the clubs interested in the 22-year-old.

But Ganso said he is not thinking about leaving Santos and even said that contract talks are in the pipeline with the Brazil outfit.

“I thought it was best to leave that subject to a later date,” Ganso told Globoesporte. “I am only focused on playing well again at Santos. That is the only thing I am thinking about.”

“The club’s president talked to me (about a new contract), but I told him it was not the best time, because Santos are preparing for the Club World Cup, so we thought it was best to leave it for January.”

The midfielder, who is currently recovering from a thigh injury, added his sole worry is to regain full fitness in time for the global club competition in Japan in December.

“I want to get prepared, without any hurry, to be fully fit for the Club World Cup, since Santos are far away from the top of the table in the league,” he said.

“That is my biggest motivation right now.”
