Garde wary of ´dangerous´ Dijon

Lyon coach Remi Garde says his side will need to be wary of newly-promoted Dijon when the teams meet in Ligue 1 this weekend.

The team from Burgundy have made a solid start to their debut season in France’s top flight, picking up 22 points from 20 games so far.

Lyon will be looking to end a run of consecutive league defeats which has left them eight points off leaders PSG and Garde is expecting a tough match against the Ligue 1 newcomers.

“We conceded a lot of goals in our last away games…Dijon can be dangerous on the counter-attack,” Garde said.

“They have a lot good players, Benjamin Corgnet, (Brice) Jovial who are athletic and fast. I am full of respect for what they have done so far as they come off promotion. They’re doing well.”

“It would be difficult to know what else they can do. I feel like it’s all or nothing. But they can be good.”

The form of young gun Gueida Fofana has been a high point for Lyon this season, but Garde said the 20-year-old still had work to do to become a regular starter.

“I think he (Fofana) has improved. After a few months he settled in his new environment,” Garde said.

“The expectations are different here. It’s different than a Ligue 2 club, even a good club like Le Havre.”

“He has what it takes to improve and progress. He’s in a good state of mind. He’s a good lad. He knows his strong and weak points.”

“When he played right-back, he adapted very well. He’s smart. But he has a long way to go until he’s a regular. But it’s interesting.”
