Genoa president Enrico Preziosi has confirmed that striker Alberto Gilardino faces ‘three or four weeks’ out of action after picking up an injury.
The Italy international attacker, who moved to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris from Fiorentina during the January transfer window, hurt his calf in team training and will miss this weekend’s game against Catania.
The Liguria club’s chief has revealed the extent of the ailment and feels that the weather has something to do with the knock.
“I am very sorry about this, but with a cold climate like the present, it is easy to get injured,” the executive told Il Corriere dello Sport.
“I think it will be three to four weeks before he is back on the pitch.”
“It’s too bad because we had found a balance in attack and we were trying to defend. Let’s see what happens. Sunday will be an important test.”
Genoa are currently in ninth place in the Serie A standings with 30 points.
