Gilardino completes Genoa medical

Fiorentina striker Alberto Gilardino has completed a medical examination ahead of his proposed eight-million-euro move to Genoa.

The 29-year-old is expected to pen a four-year contract at Genoa worth 1.6-million-euros per year following three seasons with Fiorentina where he scored 46 league goals.

Speaking after his medical on Friday, Gilardino was upbeat and told Telenord that he would be able to give more details on the transfer in the coming days.

“I will speak more next week, best wishes to all. I am happy to be here,” Gilardino said.

It marks the end of a lengthy operation by Genoa, who have been on the lookout for a capable partner to Rodrigo Palacio in attack, as Lucas Pratto and Andrea Caracciolo have thus far failed to blossom since their arrivals.

Meanwhile, Fiorentina have now switched their attentions to landing a replacement for Gilardino, with out-of-favour Juventus striker Amauri the man most likely.

And the Italo-Brazilian forward admits he would jump at the chance to join up with Delio Rossi’s side if the opportunity arose, after his move to Genoa had collapsed over a failure to agree personal terms.

“There would be no problems in reaching an agreement with Fiorentina, because for me they are a big club and they are always ambitious. I would accept (their proposal) with great enthusiasm,” Amauri said.
