Gnabry´s World Cup dream ´over´ after Germay midfielder ruled out of finals

Serge Gnabry has confirmed he has been ruled out of the World Cup due to an adductor injury.

Bayern Munich announced on Saturday that the midfielder was set to miss “an extended period”, with speculation suggesting he was a major doubt for the finals, which begin on June 11.

Gnabry has scored 10 goals and provided 12 assists across all competitions this season. Among Bayern’s squad, only Harry Kane (56), Michael Olise (43) and Luis Diaz (39) have recorded more direct goal involvements.

The 30-year-old subsequently announced on Wednesday he will not play again this term, and will miss the World Cup, where Germany will play Curacao, Ivory Coast and Ecuador in Group E.

“The last few days have been tough to process,” he wrote on social media. “A Bayern season which still holds much to play for after securing another Bundesliga title on the weekend.

“As for the World Cup dream with Germany. That’s sadly over for me. Like the rest of the country, I’ll be supporting the boys from home. Now it’s time to focus on recovery and getting back for pre-season.”

Germany face Finland and the United States in pre-tournament friendlies before beginning their World Cup campaign against Curacao on June 14.
