Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan says he would love to return to MLS after finishing his time playing in Europe.

The American shot-stopper signed for Villa in 2008 for a fee of 600,000 pounds from Chivas, and has displaced Shay Given as the number one this season, making 25 appearances.

Guzan said that after he has finished playing in Europe, he would definitely like to return to play in his homeland – particularly for the Chicago Fire, his hometown club.

“Would I like to return to MLS one day? Yes, definitely. I was only a kid when I first went into MLS and it was still growing,” he told reporters.

“To see now from watching the highlights on the internet and TV just how far it has come,” he told The Express And Star.

“Hopefully, I will get the opportunity, when I’m finished playing in Europe, to go back and play in it – especially being from Chicago, which has a team.

“I’d love to go back and play for the Chicago Fire in front of friends and family. That would be pretty neat.”

Guzan was also in a confident mood despite Aston Villa’s struggles in the English Premier League – with the club sitting just one place – and one point – from the relegation zone.

“There’s a lot of football to be played and to be worrying at the beginning of February is crazy,” he said.

“I know the quality we have in the dressing room, so we weren’t worried. We want to put together performances that we are proud of as individuals and as a team.”
