Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan has resumed training with the squad after undergoing some unusual treatment for a hamstring injury.

The Sunderland striker, who is on loan with UAE outfit Al Ain, underwent a three-hour horse placenta treatment administered by Serbian therapist Mariana Kovacevic on Friday in a bid to be fit for the Africa Cup of Nations beginning on January 21.

According to the Ghana FA website, the 26-year-old trained with the rest of the squad ahead of Sunday’s practice game against South Africa and scored during the session.

Gyan is still being watched by the medical experts and they are hopeful he will be ready in time for Ghana’s first game against Botswana on January 24.

Gyan told KickoffGhana he is optimistic about the outcome of his treatment.

“I trained today (Saturday) so we will see,” he said. “It was only the first training session I have had with the side so nothing is decided yet, but I am positive about being fit in time for the tournament.”
