UEFA have fined Hearts 5000 euros after the Scottish club’s fans invaded the pitch at their Europa League clash with Liverpool.

The SPL club was sanctioned after their supporters took to the Anfield pitch in the playoff second-leg tie, as they celebrated David Templeton’s goal in the 85th minute which brought them level on aggregate.

However, the celebrations would be in vain, as Luis Suarez scored late on to see the Reds advance to the group stages in Europe.

And further salt into Hearts’ wounds was a financial sanction from European football’s governing body.

A statement read: “Heart of Midlothian FC have been fined 5,000 euros by the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body for ‘pitch invasion by supporters’ at last month’s UEFA Europa League play-off second-leg match at Anfield Road between Liverpool FC and the Scottish club.”
