Helguson frustrated by injury layoff

Heidar Helguson admits his spell on the sidelines has been frustrating after a good first half of the season in the Premier League with QPR.

The 34-year-old had scored nine goals this term before picking up a groin injury in the FA Cup defeat to Chelsea on January 28 and has failed to get on the pitch since.

Rangers are 16th in the league table, just two points clear of the relegation zone, and Helguson hopes to return soon to aid his side’s bid for survival.

“The injury is coming along nicely,” Helguson told QPR’s official website. “I have just started running and will gradually build up as I feel more comfortable.”

“I am still a couple of weeks away I would think but I will have a clearer idea on that in a week or so.”

QPR returned to the Premier League after a 15-year absence and Helguson has expressed his frustration at missing out on such a key period.

“It has been a frustrating period for me,” he said. “Injuries never come at a good time but it does seem this came at a really bad time.”

“The season was going well for me. I was scoring a few goals. That makes it even more frustrating really, especially given the situation we are in because I am unable to help.”

“But there is nothing you can do about this now, you just have to get on with it.”

QPR’s next match in the Premier League is away to Bolton on Saturday.
