Liverpool have signed 20-year-old Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson, with manager Kenny Dalglish set to splash more cash.

The move is Dalglish’s first signing since he was confirmed as Liverpool’s permanent boss last month, having operated in a caretaker capacity since replacing Roy Hodgson in January.

Henderson impressed for Sunderland last season, making 37 English Premier League appearances.

Liverpool paid the Black Cats a 13-million-pound transfer fee for Henderson, and also parted with striker David N’Gog – valued at seven million pounds – who will join Sunderland.

The move is predicted to be the first of many involving Liverpool this off-season, with other targets including Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam, Aston Villa winger Stewart Downing and Roma goalkeeper Alexander Doni.

Adam is reportedly keen on a move to Anfield, after Blackpool boss Ian Holloway turned down a 12-million-pound bid for the 25-year-old back in January.

Blackpool’s relegation from the Premier League on the final day of the season will reduce their bargaining power, with British publication the Guardian reporting that Liverpool would make an offer of eight million pounds for the former Rangers playmaker.
